Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre Mental Health Conference
hosted by Lynda Bryans.

Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre were delighted to have Lynda Bryans host their conference on Mental Health, in which over 200 volunteers and professionals attended.  The conference was held at Glenavon Hotel, Cookstown on 11th April 2008.  The focus of the day was to look at mental health issues in the Cookstown and Magherafelt area.  The conference brought together the Volunteer Centre, health care professionals and volunteers to raise awareness of mental health in order to discuss ways of how we could provide a better service for volunteers with mental health problems.

Michele McKeown, Centre Co-ordinator for Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre said, “It was an excellent day and great to see so many attend this event.  We were also delighted to have Lynda Bryans host the day and talk from her experience of depression”.  Michele went on to say, “Through our work as a Volunteer Centre we deal with people from all walks of life who want to volunteer.  For many volunteering is a useful way back into society and the workplace particularly after suffering an illness or some form of mental health issue.  Based on that we felt it would be a good idea to hold a conference focusing on mental health and look at ways on how to promote good mental health in the Mid-Ulster area”.

Cookstown and Magherafelt Volunteer Centre would like to thank all those who participated on the day, and to the speakers who contributed to the making of a very successful day.
