My Volunteering Story

Hello, my name is Julie Reid, I’m a mother of two boys age 20 and 15 and I have been volunteering for five years now with the Volunteer Centre office in Cookstown.  I found out about volunteering through a leaflet I noticed and I thought I would look into it.

I volunteer with three organisations, Mid Ulster Talking Newspapers, Cookstown Local History Group and Mid Ulster Volunteer Centre.  I volunteer as a Secretary for Cookstown Local History Group, Admin Volunteer for the Volunteer Centre and I’m a Newspaper Reader for Mid Ulster Talking Newspaper.

For me, volunteering has been very rewarding and gives you a sense of well-being mentally. One of my challenges throughout volunteering was having to speak at an AGM meeting in front of all the members.

My special memory from volunteering, is when Mid Ulster Volunteer Centre sent me the most gorgeous bunch of flowers for all my help. I would most definitely recommend volunteering to a friend.
