Mid Ulster Volunteer Centre is a registered Umbrella Body with Access NI, providing a discreet, professional vetting service for volunteer involving organisations. We have been providing this service since the inception of Access NI in April 2008.  The centre has dedicated and knowledgeable staff who are on hand to provide your organisation with the necessary guidance.

We are committed to helping volunteers access opportunities, helping to reduce barriers to participation and enabling voluntary groups to make safe recruitment decisions when involving volunteers. We do not receive funding to deliver the service therefore a small administration fee of £5 is required per application.

The Volunteer Centre complies with AccessNI’s Code of Practice, which can be viewed  via link below.
  • Code of Practice
  • Secure Handling, Use, Storage and Rentention Policy
  • Recruitment of Ex-offenders Policy
  • Equal Opportunities Policy

A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to obtaining a volunteering position. If you have any questions or concerns about the service, please feel free to contact us.

Employment Advice Line (employee/volunteers)

NIACRO’s employment advice line receives calls from people who are concerned about the impact of existing and new legislation on their jobs and job applications, and from employers who want to know where they stand when they get an application from someone with a conviction.

When an employee or applicant calls us, we first discuss their concerns. This will help us determine if there is sufficient evidence to take the problem up with their employer on their behalf and whether ongoing support is necessary. As changes to vetting procedures are brought in, there has been an increase in the demands on employers, job applicants and employees, many of whom have concerns on how the processes will affect them. Some of these queries may result in the need for legal advice, which NIACRO may be able to support. Last year, they dealt with 633 enquiries from employers and employees.

To access our advice line, contact us on 028 9032 0157.
